My America Doesn’t Quit!

My America Doesn’t Quit!

******************

Psychologists tell us that the first five years of a child’s life are the “formative years”. Input into that child’s brain, during that five year period, will determine who that child grows up to be, the temperament of the adult, and so many other attributes which will determine the adult personality, etc.

Where am I going with this? Well, permit me to wander just a bit more before I bring these thoughts to a common thread.

If you are a regular to INSIGHT on Freedom, you already know that I have what at first appears to be a "fixation" on the war. You know, too, that I have little stomach for anything less than all out victory by the US Military anytime they are committed to a fight.

I have a number of friends, both conservative and liberal. I know that may be hard to believe but some of my liberal friends are like brothers to me. We argue politics and religion, and whatever, with each other, but my friends, those who remain my friends, know that I do not compromise my belief… even for them. And they know, as well, that I do not expect them to compromise their belief either.

Now, let me see if I can draw all this together: I have friends, conservative and liberal, who believe we either should not be in Iraq, or should pull the troops out as soon as possible. I don’t. I believe we should stay there ‘til the fight is done. … and until we completely pacify the country. If that takes 100 years, then so be it. I could not care less what got us into the war. That is of no consequence to me. What matters to me is that we are there and that we are victorious. There is no compromise for me on that … at all.

OK, now back to the first paragraph of this article. I was born a few months before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The first five years of my life were spent in some of the darkest days America has ever experienced. Telegrams were delivered to my neighbors and to my own family announcing the death of a relative, or loved one, or neighbor in combat against the Japanese or the Germans. It became a daily routine. It was a sad, trying time. It was a time when America felt the war deep down in the most secret part of our souls. It was WARTIME.

There was no talk of pulling the troops out of anywhere. There was no talk of impeaching the President because thousands of troops were killed in one day on some battlefield or some beachhead in the vast Pacific Ocean. (America had twice as many men killed on D-Day as we have had killed in nearly 5 years of war in Iraq!) What there was … was… quiet determination. America’s people, unlike modern Americans, never entertained the thought of defeat. There was a steely resolve to do whatever we had to do to defeat the enemy. If that took firebombing entire civilian populations in Germany and Japan and killing well over 100, 000 civilians all at once, to dropping two Atomic Bombs on the last enemy to surrender, that was all fine and good. It was what had to be done to win victory… and Americans said, collectively, so be it. And we won. The world is a much better place because we won.

I lived that period. I soaked it up. The radio in my home was on constantly. I remember Edward R. Murrow reporting from London during the war. I remember Lowell Thomas reporting from some of the worst battlefields on the earth. I soaked it up. And I learned. I learned that when Americans decide to do something, anything, nothing short of God, Himself, could stop us. Oh, we CAN be defeated. But only by ourselves!

That knowledge has served me well. It has taken me places a man of my humble beginnings ought not to have been able to go. But, I have been there and back.

So, to tell me that America is losing a war with a pipsqueak nation, or a group of demented religious nuts, will get a look of utter astonishment from me. I am in disbelief that an American citizen can utter such a phrase.

Look, when I was in grammar school to utter the words: “I can’t:” brought a spanking, by the teacher, with a wooden paddle called the “board of education”. There was no room in the American English language for the phrase “I can’t”. We were a “Can DO People”! And we did.

I am now at what some have called the autumn of my life. But, even today, I bristle when I hear someone say: “I can’t”. I will not tolerate my grandchildren using that phrase in my presence. One of my father’s favorite expressions was: “You can do anything you WANT to do!” He wasn’t fooling around. He meant every word of it!

In MY America… America doesn’t quit! We do what we have to do to win. No matter what that might be. We do it. Americans can do whatever we WANT to do!

As I said above… America CAN BE DEFEATED! But, ONLY by AMERICA!

Fred Thompson Stronger Among People Who Decide GOP Elections

Press Release from Thompson's official website: www.fred08.com
***********************
October 2, 2007

For Immediate Release:

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...Thompson Stronger Among People Who Decide GOP Elections
********************
Excerpts From: "An In Depth Look at Who Votes & Decides the GOP Primaries: A Commentary by Douglas Schoen"
By Douglas Schoen
October 2, 2007

Rasmussen Reports polling has recently shown Fred Thompson leading the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination while most other polls place Rudy Giuliani in the lead and Thompson in second.

The difference is primarily the result of the fact that Rasmussen screens for Likely Primary Voters while others do not.
...

...Gallup numbers are very similar to the Rasmussen numbers. Not only does Gallup's sample of informed voters show Thompson ahead of Giuliani, they also match Rasmussen by showing Romney ahead of McCain.

Why does Gallup's sample of informed voters look so much like the Rasmussen sample of Likely Voters? Because those more informed voters are precisely the kind of people who show up and vote in a primary.

The fact that a Likely Voter sample shows more support for Thompson than a sample of all adults also makes intuitive sense because we know that primary voters tend to be somewhat more conservative than Republicans in general. And, as Rasmussen data has shown, Thompson is perceived by voters as the most conservative candidate seeking the GOP nomination.

The implications of this analysis are clear: Fred Thompson is in a much stronger position among the people who will actually decide Republican primaries and caucuses than most observers understand. And Rudy Giuliani's support is sufficiently soft and is made up in part of voters who are attracted to his celebrity and have a much lower likelihood of actually voting.

"Thought Control" Legislation!

“Thought Control” By the State is Alive and Well in Washington, DC!

*******************

“Sens. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., and Gordon Smith, R-Ore., have trashed the collective reputations of millions of U.S. military service members in order to advance their "hate crimes" legislation, which would make it a crime to utter a negative opinion about homosexuals or their lifestyle, a pro-family group says.
The U.S. Senate yesterday approved an amendment by Kennedy and Smith to install in federal law a ban on such expressions of religious and personal opinion. The amendment was added to the Department of Defense Authorization bill, which is needed to keep funding worldwide U.S. military operations.” (From
www.worldnetdaily.com) Read the entire article at:

This is Political Correctness gone wild… and finally gone mad!

The thought police are definitely here in America. This, dear reader, is more evidence of “Socialism on the March” in America. This kind of legislation is right out of the Stalinist handbook! And look who is supporting such legislation. Look at the numbers voting for it.

The President will veto this bill, of course, but what if the President was of the same mind as those pushing this “Thought Control” legislation? That is a terrifying thought! And that is exactly what we have to decide in November of next year.

If you are a mental adult, you know voting against these people in ’08 is mandatory… just to protect your freedom.

We told the readers of this site that at some point after the Democrats won control of the House and Senate they would not be able to contain themselves and they would drop the façade of “reasonableness” and allow you to see who they really are. Now you can see for yourself. They’re socialists… just as we have been saying all along. But, what about the Republicans who have joined them and even co-sponsored this abomination of a bill? Why, they’re just as bad!

The Scriptures say: “You will know a tree by the fruit it bears!”

How long before Americans understand that the two major political parties in the US have sold us out? Will we come to our senses before our country is decimated? Sadly, there is reason to doubt that we will.

Bit by bit, tiny piece by tiny piece, our freedom is being eroded away by our own ignorance and apathy.

I am one unhappy conservative Republican and I’m still looking for a political home… a political party for conservatives only. The current Republican Party only tolerates us for our votes and our money. They really do not appreciate it when we bring pressure to bear when they take off on some left-wing tangent as they did with the Amnesty Bill and as they are about to do with this piece of warped unconstitutional garbage.

Conservatives have to do one of two things: we either have to assert ourselves and gain control of the GOP… or… we have to pull out and form another political party which will be in direct conflict with the Democrat Party and the Republican Party. If we do not do one of these things the conservative movement in America is, for all intents and purposes… dead. The two ruling parties will have bottled us up and, in effect, made us impotent. Once that is accomplished the constitution will be shredded and the few freedoms we enjoy today will also be gone.

That’s why conservatives become so irate over moves such as this by Kennedy and Smith to camouflage another attempt to reduce the freedom of Americans. If WE don’t… who will????

Democrat Party Demonstrates it’s Clueless-ness and Foolishness as it Condemns Limbaugh and Enrages, and Fires-Up, the Conservative Republican base!

UPDATED!!!!!!!
A Public LYNCHING of LIMBAUGH by DEMOCRATS!

**************************
Sometimes the utter lack of common sense among the democrats is just jaw dropping in its depth and dimension. Case in point … the attack on Rush Limbaugh. It is bad enough that they base their attack on a lie…. but to be so stupid as to enrage their political foe, the conservatives in the US, just boggles the mind!

The Stalinist behavior of the Left, in Congress this week, has been eye-opening to the right. Up ‘til the attack on Limbaugh, conservatives had pretty much accepted defeat in the 2008 election. But, with monumental stupidity the left attacks an Icon of the right and reminds the Conservative right just why it is so important for them to engage the left in the 2008 election! How dumb IS this?

We have known for many decades the vaunted intelligence of the left is a myth. But, they had to go prove it for the entire world to see and hear.

As I said in an earlier article I actually heard the broadcast conversation, live, in which the phrase “phony soldiers” was used, both by Mr. Limbaugh and by the caller to whom he was speaking. There was never any doubt what Rush meant. He DID NOT speak in general terms about the US Military. If there is any doubt… simply ask the military!

If anyone should apologize to the US Military it is the Democrats in Congress. They have defamed the US Military at every turn. They have tried, and continue to try, to promote defeat of American forces in Iraq… and soon they will make another attempt to cut off funding for the war which will result in many deaths of American troops on the battlefield because democrats would not allow them to have the money to buy the ammunition and supplies they need to fight the enemy and defend themselves. THIS IS PATRIOTIC??? My God, it REEKS of giving aid and comfort to the enemy!

Look, we have the most unpopular Congress in the history of the United States! The polls tell the story. Something like 11% approval by the American people. And stunts like the condemnation of Limbaugh only demonstrate why the American people find them detestable!

Where are the adults on the Left??? Where??? They act and sound like adolescents with raging hormones. I know the left in Congress is, for the most part old hippies and flower children all wrinkled up now… but most of the 60’s crowd GREW-UP! Not these BOZOS!

Republican Candidate for President Fred Thompson issued the following statement today:
"Congressional Democrats are trying to divert attention from insulting our military leader in Iraq and pandering to the loony left by attacking Rush Limbaugh. He is one of the strongest supporters of our troops, yet Democrats claim he is not being strong enough. I wonder who General Petraeus and his troops think is most supportive."
Oh, and while I am at it, allow me to say that the unheard voices from the Republicans in the Senate did not go un-noticed by the Conservative base. We are equally as angry at the Republican Party for allowing an icon of conservatism to be lynched on the floor of the Senate without so much as a protest! Why didn’t the Republicans at least walk out? Why didn’t they at least stand and turn their backs on the ranting democrat speakers? Why?

And they want my vote in November of 2008?

Are they NUTS???!

Yes, I am angry! And I plan on staying this way right through November of 2008!

Sunny, But Expensive Dreams ... by Alan Caruba

Sunny, But Expensive Dreams
By Alan Caruba

******************

New Jersey has a multi-millionaire Governor, Jon Corzine, whose monthly energy bill is not a problem. That leaves the rest of the State’s citizens out in the cold because, as the largest daily newspaper recently noted, “New Jersey already is one of the most expensive states for business” and, may I add, for auto insurance, property taxes, and a sales tax.

So naturally, the Governor is all for a mandate to require more solar power with the aim of having at least two percent of the electricity consumed in New Jersey coming from solar panels by 2030.

The New Jersey Governor is not alone in his support for these sunny, but very expensive solar and other energy-related dreams. In early September, the National Governors Association committed itself to “promoting clean energy policies across the nation.” Among its goals were to “use our existing energy resources more wisely through efficiency and conservation.” Let me translate this for you. This is Green talk for not permitting the extraction of oil, the mining of coal, or the exploration and use of natural gas to warm people’s homes and keep the engines of the economy functioning smoothly and affordably.

Just to make sure you understand what the governors want, another policy they advocate would “promote non-petroleum based fuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel.” This policy ignores the way the mandated use of federally subsidized production of ethanol is driving up the price of corn and thus of food and countless other products for all of us.

The governors also want to “take reasonable steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions” when the so-called science behind the global warming hoax continues to be debunked to the point where most people understand that the earth’s climate is largely driven by the activity of the Sun. Requiring the installation of solar panels will not change this, but for the average home in New Jersey, it costs an average of between $48,000 and $60,000.

Lastly, the governors want to “accelerate the research and development of advanced, clean energy technologies.” We already have “clean” energy. It’s called nuclear energy. The use of nuclear and other energy resources is the reason the United States is an economic superpower.

An example of how dense the National Governors Association is was a letter signed by thirteen governors sent to automotive corporations asking them to support the governors’ commitment to address climate change. American cars are already miracles of technology. Fighting “climate change”, code words for “global warming,” is the least of their problems in the marketplace.

The largest circulation New Jersey daily newspaper published an editorial urging “Caution on solar plan.” The Star-Ledger noted that “A healthy economy and a clean environment are both crucial to the quality of life in New Jersey…Unfortunately, not only is it not easy being green, it is also expensive.”

For a multi-millionaire Governor, that is not a problem. “The problem is that the solar program is founded on a complex web of economic assumptions that may or may not prove realistic,” opined the newspaper’s editorial. “Solar costs will have to drop sharply to become more competitive.” No kidding! The State has already spent $4.6 million in rebates designed to promote solar power. The mandate for increased use of solar power by 2030 is estimated to cost electric ratepayers “an estimated $11 billion, according to the state Office of Clean Energy.”

The new plan “would scale back a current rebate program that provides homeowners and businesses grants to cover up to 70 percent of solar installations. The grants are funded by a small surcharge on every utility customer’s bill. So, if you live in New Jersey, you’re paying for solar energy whether you use it or want it.

So far no one has stepped forward to say this is yet another idiotic Green proposal that will raise the cost of living and doing business in New Jersey with no economic benefit to anyone except those who manufacture and install solar panels. Indeed, as the managing director of one solar installer, said, “The industry can start selling again in New Jersey. It has been virtually shut down.”

I wonder why? Could it be the high cost of solar panels and their use as opposed to the cost of inexpensive alternatives that already provide abundant electricity? Could it be the only way the solar panel industry can survive in the capitalist, competitive business environment is to find ways for government to require its use? Could it be just another Green pipedream and program to deny access to the abundant resources of coal, oil, and natural gas known to exist in the United States and its continental offshore areas?

If this moronic mandate is not removed from the backs of homeowners and businesses in New Jersey, I am going to start sending my monthly utilities bill to Governor Corzine.
He can afford it even if New Jersey cannot

If Giuliani Gets the Republican Nod, Will Christian Conservatives Bolt the GOP???

If Giuliani Gets the Republican Nod, Will Christian Conservatives Bolt the GOP???
*******************
The short answer is… probably. Their only option would be a third party candidate. Just who that candidate would be is anyone’s guess at this point.

For more on this topic go here:

I don’t think there is any serious belief that a third party candidate, supported by the Christian Conservatives, would have a chance of winning, but it would allow the Christian Conservatives someone to vote for and keep them in the process.

As for me, I can’t vote for Giuliani for a number of reasons, the abortion issue is one of them. I can’t vote for McCain or Romney or any of the second tier either. So… my candidate is Fred Thompson.

Of course, it is still over a year ‘til the election. But some things can be seen… even now. For instance, the GOP field is the weakest field of candidates in a long time. Republicans, especially conservative republicans, are not donating their cash to candidates as they have in years past. It is one way to register their displeasure with the candidates. Another is the lack of interest, the apathy, if you will, on the part of republicans. Nobody is excited about any of the candidates. Plus, the seemingly never-ending campaign for president has really, really, tuned voters off. For many of us, we will just be glad when it is over and all these people with their hands out just go away!

Then there is the belief on the right that this election is a coronation for Queen Hillary. (You know, HRC… Her Royal Clinton!) Many Republicans see the election in that light and simply have no interest in fighting what they perceive as the inevitable.

The REALLY serious concern for the GOP in all this is… the possibility that Christian Conservatives choose to back a third Party candidate. There is more than ample reason to believe that if the Christian Conservatives pull out… they may never come back to the fold. It would greatly weaken the GOP… maybe even fatally.

The folks at the RNC would do well to pay attention!

Oh, My GAWD!!! Blackwater is Owned and Operated by a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN EX-MILITARY MAN!

Oh, My GAWD!!! Blackwater is Owned and Operated by a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN EX-MILITARY MAN!
*************************
NOW we know what all the fuss is about!

“Founded in 1996 by Erik Prince, a former Navy Seal, multimillionaire and conservative Republican donor, Blackwater began as a training facility for police and the military but began offering security services after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Prince, whose father helped bankroll conservative Christian organizations such as Focus On Family and Family Research Council, has given at least $225,000 to the Republican Party and its candidates.”

Read the entire article at:

http://www.tommoody.us/archives/2007/09/29/blackwater-links/

Look, I don’t know if Blackwater did what they are accused of, and, frankly, I don’t much care. It sometimes appears, from the stories we are hearing, that Blackwater is pursuing and killing the enemy at rates, maybe not equal to that of the US Military, but they sure as hell, are removing a lot of aggravation from the streets and villages of Iraq. For that… they should be commended… not persecuted and prosecuted. Besides, it is the Western way of waging war! For more on that topic... read this article by Nicholas M. Guariglia :

http://globalpolitician.com/articledes.asp?ID=3538&cid=1&sid=27

So they are Mercs! So what? If the Liberals had not gutted our military we’d have enough troops to do the job... without Blackwater and the other Merc companies in Iraq. As it is, we simply do not have the manpower to do all the things a military needs to do. Enter the Mercs!

So the answer is to start-up the draft again??? Ok, so we do that. What do we have then? Cannon fodder! We know that a draft, similar to the one we used to have, will reduce the educational level of our military and create, basically, cannon fodder for the enemy’s guns. We have the smartest, quickest, military on the planet. True, it does need to be larger than it currently is. There is no doubt about that. We need roughly 750,000 troops in Iraq… today. We’ve got, we THINK, 160,000. Add to that the 180,000 Mercs we have serving there, paid by the US, and we have somewhere on the order of 340,000 troops on the ground in Iraq. That’s a little less than half the number of troops we need.

No…all the fuss over Blackwater is not about Blackwater and not about mercenaries in general. In particular it is about the Bush Administration and it is coming from the “Hate America First Crowd”!

If you are a regular to this site, you know that I am at odds with the Bush Administration a good deal of the time. I think the war has been mishandled. I believe we should have utterly destroyed Iraq, crushing everything, down to the last cinder block… and then come home. I have no love for nation building and I don’t support wasting our energy, and our treasure, building up an enemy this country just found it necessary to destroy. I feel that finding themselves on a smoking pile of rubble, which used to be their country, is a part of the price an enemy of the US pays for being an enemy.

Someone has suggested that the US Government should give/award Blackwater a contract to protect the US border with Mexico. I LIKE that! Want to bet the illegal immigration would drop like a stone… almost overnight? Put them on the border, with Presidential pardons in their pockets, and watch the border get secured… post haste!

Oh, while I’m at it, allow me to clear something up. The use of Blackwater Mercs to protect US government personnel in Iraq is not an insult to US troops! (The enemy of my enemy is my friend!) No, on the contrary. Again, this would not be necessary if we had enough troops. Every US trooper detailed to protect a State Department employee or other high-ranking official is a trooper taken off the battlefield. We simply don’t have the troops to do that.

Look, when political correctness rules a government, the only way to get the job of protecting the people of that country done is by hiring private armies not ruled by political correctness and willing to do the task, whatever the task entails, for a fee. I have no problem with that. I DO have a problem with my country being ruled by political correctness. It is political correctness, and political correctness alone, which has brought us to this unsalutary point in our history. It is long past time for Americans to take off the rose-colored glasses and see the world for what it really is… an extremely dangerous place.

By the way… in the most recent “shoot-out” or “fire fight” involving Blackwater and so-called civilians, ask yourself… how do we know they WERE civilians? The terrorists don’t wear uniforms. Then ask yourself… did the State Department personnel they were protecting survive unharmed? Yes, they did. Now, that is what we call: “Mission Accomplished!”
