Sooner, or later, all hoaxes are identified for what they are. There are going to be an awful lot of dignitaries, as well as a huge number of self-important blowhards, with egg on their faces. With the advent of the two most holy days of the Jewish lunar calendar, Rosh Hashanah, the “New Year”, followed in ten days by Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, it’s a good time to visit the subject of why Jews are universally the subject of hatred and fear.

A recent issue of The Economist had an article titled “Taming Leviathan” that purported to say the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) wielded such power politically in Washington that it lives “up to their critic’s darkest fears.”

Do these “darkest fears” merely reflect the growing anti-Semitism in Great Britain where the editorial offices of the magazine are located? Or are these the same dark fears that 300 million Arabs in 22 nations have of six million Israeli Jews because they have the temerity to want to live in a land their ancestors called home more than three millennia ago?

The world’s obsession with this minority, reduced by six million in Europe in the last century’s Nazi genocide, defies any rational explanation and is buried deep in the collective psyche of other religions.

AIPAC is impressive. Its 2007 annual policy conference brought 6,000 activists to Washington and was addressed by the most powerful people in Congress as well as the Vice President whose speech was titled, “The United States and Israel: United We Stand.” Moreover, these days there are more Jewish members in Congress than ever before. There are 30 in the House of Representatives and 13 in the Senate. This suggests a level of trust that is significant.

A benign view of this suggests that Jews are so integrated in American society that their religion is an insignificant factor with regard to being elected. It was not always so. Prejudice has long been the bitter bread on which Jews have dined and explains why so many fled Europe and Russia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to make new lives in America.

Historically, Jews formed small, insular communities and, as often as not, this isolation was thrust upon them. There would always be those who would attack them for whatever reason they invented.

The result of that long history taught them an invaluable lesson. To protect their community it was necessary to find allies among those in the highest seats of power. As money-lenders, a profession that was initially forbidden to Christians, they acquired access and influence. As physicians they were widely sought after by caliphs and kings.

Over the centuries Jews developed a keen interest in the events of the world around them and through family and business interests had a good platform for communications on this topic. Jews gravitated toward professions that were devoted to order in a world filled with conflict. Steeped in the laws of the Old Testament, they were drawn to being lawyers. Concerned for health, they became physicians. Active in banking and commerce since ancient times, they became skilled in assessing degrees of risk.

They did not engage in conquest or banditry like the Vikings, the Mongols, Muslims, and other groups in former times. Instead, Judaism gave the world a very long list of men and women who transformed our understanding of it and ourselves. From Freudian psychology to Einstein’s theory, in medicine, economics, and the arts, the benefits in just the last century have been extraordinary.

Most American Jews are politically liberal. Surveys reveal that 77% think the Iraq war was a mistake, compared with 52% of all Americans. Fully 87% of Jews voted for Democrats in 2006 and all but four of the Jews in Congress are Democrats. AIPAC was an early supporter of the invasion of Iraq, so AIPAC does not in fact reflect the dominant views of a majority of American Jews.

No other special interest group in Washington has ever experienced the annihilation of six million of its co-religionists in the last century, the deliberate genocide of Europe’s Jewish population. For that reason alone, one can understand why AIPAC and other Jewish organizations would remain vigilant for the safety of Jews at home and throughout the world.

The suggestion, however, that AIPAC’s influence is far greater than other comparable politically active organizations that prowl the corridors of Congress is more likely attributable to the perception of Jews as wielding great and unseen power in the world.

The placebo that all the problems of the Middle East would go away if there was no Israel is ridiculous. Americans should not forget the Palestinian’s celebration of the 9/11 attacks that took place in the streets of Gaza on that day. The soldiers of Hezbollah, Hamas and Fatah are Palestinians and yet Israel is home to many Arabs who enjoy full citizenship and some even serve in its Knesset.

Islam is and always has been at war with every other religion on Earth. Thus we are looking at what is likely to be a very long period of terrorism and warfare until the fanatical Islamic genii is put back in its bottle.

Jews occupy such a mythic position in the minds of non-Jews that it is easy to think of them as vastly more powerful and influential than they are.

In America and worldwide, Jews are small in numbers, frequently divided over the issues affecting them, still under siege in the Middle East, Europe and elsewhere, and always in need of friends in high places.

New technology drives out old technology. As often as not, its impact is not known until many years after its introduction. Meanwhile, we live our lives day to day.

This is what is happening to the business of publishing newspapers and magazines, places where, traditionally, writers have earned a living. In an article in the summer edition of the newsletter of The National Association of Science Writers, the headline read “Reporting withers while information explodes.” The author, Stuart F. Brown, like easily 85% or more of the NASW membership, myself included, is a freelance writer.

“As the number of readers who turn to the Internet for their news has boomed, the business equation in publishing has pretty much collapsed,” said Brown. “So we find ourselves in the curious situation of living in a society that increasingly runs on technology and information—while witnessing the withering of the original reporting that tells us what’s going on.”

It’s worse than a “curious situation.” A society dependent on technology and science really needs to understand it in some fashion and most Americans haven’t a clue. This leaves them vulnerable to a lot of bad or “junk” science news. In the past, there were fulltime science writers on the staffs of the nation’s newspapers who made the phone calls, did the interviews, collected the data, and explained it to us.

In the same issue of the NASW newsletter, Charles Petit, a former NASW president, wrote “The Science Beat: Uh Oh, Another One Bites the Dust.” After a 35-year career on the science beat for various media, Petit took a buyout from U.S. News & World Report in 2004 when it scrapped its science unit, but retained health and medicine writers. “Full-time, traditional-media science reporters covering breaking news are growing scarcer.”

Among those traditional media retaining science reporters, Petit cited Reuters, the international newswire. That caught my eye because, along with the Associated Press, both of these dominant news services have served up a full plate of skewed science reporting. This has been particularly true in the way “global warming” has been reported.

Writing for the American Thinker.com on August 10, James Lewis provided an article, “Twisting Science to Fit the Global Warming Template”, in which he meticulously dissected the way a Reuters story reversed the actual message of an article in Science magazine that “contained devastating information of flaws in the doomsters methodology and warned that the disaster (global warming) had been postponed.” Lewis noted, “the Science article itself is an artful retreat from previous, over-confident global warming predictions.” The article noted that “natural variations” in the planet’s climate have been ignored for decades by the model-makers.

The public is only now beginning to understand that virtually all of the computer models used by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and other sources for predictions about global warming have been seriously in error, often by deliberate design and intention. Some of the models ignored the mini-Ice Age of 1300 to 1800. Others declared 1998 as the hottest year of the last century when it was actually 1934, during a time famed for its droughts and dustbowls.

Joining in this massive hoax have been the broad contingent of mainstream media that has breathlessly reported that virtually every natural climate event has been the result of global warming and that we are all doomed.

The most recent and egregious example was Newsweek magazine that attacked what it called global warming “deniers” in a cover story replete with errors. It was so bad that, a week later, one of its own editors, Robert J. Samuelson, took the magazine to task for claiming that a “well-coordinated, well-funded campaign by contrarian scientists, free-market think tanks and industry has created a paralyzing fog of doubt around climate change.” Samuelson called it “a peripheral and highly contrived story.”

Petit says that, “the fabric of mainstream reporting of breaking science news is frayed, not shredded.”

From my point of view, however, after a steady diet of so-called science news telling us that everything we eat, drink and breath is going to kill us and, if that doesn’t do it, the melting of the North and South Poles, the rise of oceans, the spread of deserts, and the death of just about every known species of animal, the credibility of science reporting in the mainstream media has suffered some serious body blows.

For our skepticism, those of us who have disputed the endless lies about global warming have been labeled “deniers” in much the same way as those who dispute the Holocaust. This is not by accident. The use of the word “deniers” has opened the door for Robert Kennedy, Jr. to accuse us of being “traitors” and for the Weather Channel’s ordained expert on global warming to suggest that any meteorologist who disagrees should have their certification taken away. This is the stuff of despotism.

“What most people don’t know is that real science is a giant debating society, filled with skeptics,” says Lewis. “It is only mature science that is stable and agreed-upon. But mature science comes only after centuries of cumulative evidence, and constant, heated debate.”

Declaring that a “consensus” exists among all the scientists of the world that global warming is occurring is a lie. Twisting the results of a Science magazine report to reflect the opposite of its findings is a lie. Producing a “documentary” called “An Inconvenient Truth” filled with distortions and lies deserves censure, not mandatory showings in all the schools of the nation.

The federal government has spent billions to determine if global warming exists. So far it has not found any credible evidence for this dubious theory. Worse yet is the writing of laws in Congress that are based on this flawed and false “science of global warming” that will drive up the cost of everything on which our economy depends. That is a criminal misuse of the powers allocated to elected representatives.

As for the “science” you read about in the mainstream media these days, the rule of thumb is caveat emptor, buyer beware.

9-11... Remembering

Six years ago this morning, I stood rooted to the floor, in front of my TV set, as the second plane flew from a perfectly blue sky into the side of a giant, hollowed-out, steel and glass monolith filled with my fellow Americans taking thousands of them to their deaths.

It was no accident.

At first my mind refused to accept what it already knew. This was no accident. This was planned and coordinated by the wicked, cruel, mind of some evil genius from the depths of Hell itself. I felt the weight of the mantle of war drift down, silently, to settle upon my shoulders just as it had at the beginning of each of the previous major wars my country has been involved with beginning in December of 1941. It is a heavy burden. A burden I never wanted to carry again. But this time, this time, the enemy had deliberatly targeted innocent civilians, telling us, up front, what kind of war this would be… a war to the death… with no quarter from them.

So be it!

As I stood, rooted to the floor before the TV… my phone began to ring… one call behind another. The one which stands out, above all the others, was a near panicked call from a dear friend who happens to be a liberal… an anti-war, peace-loving, liberal. She asked of me what was happened, her voice cracking in fear and utter disbelief. I told here: ”We are at War. The enemy has just sent us a message by striking our ideological centers, the Military, the Government, and our Financial Institutions, the bedrock of capitalism.” I repeated: “We are at war!” With an audible “gulp” she rang off. In the days, weeks, and months which followed, we had many discussions centered around 9-11. She never, never, understood what had happened that day and still does not, to this day.

That said… judging from the hearings in DC yesterday, with General Petraeus, it is such an easy thing to see… the Liberals still do not understand what happened on September 11th, 2001, 6 years ago to this day. And what’s more, they will not understand it up to, and including, the day of their deaths. It isn’t in them. They are hardwired to ignore that which is not pleasant and that which is difficult, unsightly, disturbing, and, for all intents and purposes, REAL. They must, for they cannot deal with it! That wiring was left out when their creator created them.

In order to achieve self-preservation, conservatives must push past them to assure safety for their families. We will do that. It will not be pretty. It will, in fact, be ugly. But it is, in fact, necessary and… it will be done.

Americans had a bit of difficulty deciding the culprits of the first 9-11 disaster. We found them in short order, however. The second time… we will not even bother to look, for we know where they are, where they live.

We’ll be coming.

I have been in the hospital from last Sunday evening until today… Sunday September 9th... with numerous internal infections and inflammations. As of this writing, I am still too weak to do much “blogging”. I hope you will understand. As soon as I am able, I’ll be back at it "with both guns blazing".

Sorry I missed Fred’s announcement. I’ll have much to say on his campaign as it matures.

Just wanted you to know where I have been… and… that I have not abandoned my post here.

I had the good fortune to have an unexpected speaking engagement, this past weekend, at a Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp. It is always good to speak to a group with whom I have so much in common.

I’m a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, in fact, the Lt. Commander of a North Carolina Camp.

It was a short notice, and I had less than a day to prepare, so I stuck with a subject I knew a little about. That is the “safe” thing to do when you are speaking before a historical, or heritage, group and the “Sons” is both.

I chose to speak on “Our Confederate Soldier” as opposed to “The Confederate Soldier” as the latter has been defined by Hollywood and revisionist historians. The latter also bears little resemblance to the real Confederate soldier.

The Confederate Soldier has been slandered and libeled for 140 + years. Those who would drag his name through the muck and mire are still at it… full throttle.

Organizations who claim roots to slavery in this country (whether their ancestors arrived before, or after, 1865, it doesn’t seem to matter) deride the SCV and that beautiful old battlefield emblem the Confederate Battle Flag.

It would seem that the truth doesn’t matter. Their hatred for all things Confederate even includes some of their own ancestors, as it is a fact that African Americans served in the armed forces of the Confederacy. We know this. We can prove this, but try to convince the campus elite who gain favor with minorities for lambasting all things Southern. The fact that blacks served in the Confederate armed forces can be documented… means nothing. They have made up their minds and we have been unable to dent their armor of ignorance.

There is hardly a day that goes by that we don’t hear of, or read of, an incident involving a Confederate symbol of some kind, which has offended somebody. Our limp wristed, jello spined, politicians come down on the side of the complainant rather than on the side of truth. That leaves the southerner, the direct ancestors of the brave men of the Confederacy, to slowly twist in the wind, as we become targets for the real bigots and the real racists in America today.

When I was a boy there was a popular song with these lyrics: “Save your Confederate money boys, the South’s gonna rise, again!” Well, the South has risen again. Today the South is arguably the most prosperous part of the country. Very much as it was in the 1850’s the South has come under fire again, as a result of envy. Other Americans are jealous of our prosperity, even of our mild climate, of our tenacious hold on our history and our honor.

We have thousands of visitors to this fair part of the USA from “other” parts of the country. Unfortunately, they do not return the courtesy, nor the hospitality, offered them, here, by the native Southerners.

Look, down here, if you go… to visit another man… in his house… you don’t criticize the furnishings of that home. You don’t complain when he says grace over his food and invokes the blessings of God on his family and the guests in his home. You don’t complain about the way he does things, or doesn’t do things. We Southerners understand that a person’s home is his, well, his HOME. We keep any complaints we have to ourselves.

Unfortunately, the influx of “others” into our fair homeland has brought clash after clash as the visitors complain about nearly everything Southern. The question immediately comes to mind; if they are so dissatisfied with the way we do things here… why did they come down here to begin with?

The thing that really burns me up is that a good number of Southerners who have been indoctrinated in our schools and universities will agree with them. These mis-led Southerners don’t know their history. They don’t know who they are. They have no appreciation for the trials and tribulations the South has met, head on, and triumphed over.

All they know about the so-called “Civil War” is that the North was good and the South was bad because the South had slaves. Nobody bothered to tell them, during that expensive education their Southern parents paid for, that Slavery was LEGAL… that the North had slaves, too. Nobody bothered to tell them that the north controlled the slave industry out of the New England states with their fleets of slave ships and their hundreds of rum distilleries which produced the rum with which they purchased the slaves from other Africans, and Arabs, in Africa. They don’t know how the South was bled nearly dry, by the Federal government, to keep the US afloat economically.

The story is told that when a politician asked Lincoln why he didn’t just let the South go, he replied: “but who would pay for the government!”

As the years go by and we become more distant from the Great War for Southern Independence, as the intellectuals on our college campuses re-write history to suit themselves, and as the Politically Correct Crowd continues to push their agenda to trivialize all things Southern, we are losing sight of our Southern heroes. Their historic deeds are being buried. Our Southern icons, such as the Confederate Battle Flag, are being hidden from public sight. The old song Dixie can no longer be sung in public.

Things have surely changed. I can remember that as a lad in High school, on Friday nights, when the community gathered at the local High School for the weekly football game, the crowd would stand as the Star Spangled Banner was played by the school band and the crowd would remain standing as the wonderful song “Dixie” was followed hot on the heels on the first national anthem. Then a great round of applause would roll through the stadium and the game would begin.

Many Southern schools, today, forbid the wearing of any piece of clothing with a confederate icon… of any kind… on it.

Just a few hundred yards from one such Southern high school is a mass grave of American Revolutionary soldiers massacred by the British Cavalry Commander Tarleton as they dared to fight the British Crown for our right to free speech. A right those men, who were the grandfathers of the Confederate soldiers, were willing to die for… a right denied us, as ancestors of the Confederate soldier, today, and those kids, just down the road from that huge mound which holds the remains of the men who were willing to fight and die for that freedom, are not allowed to express their pride in their heritage.
Please remember that when you open your news papers and see that another southern child has been sent home from school for wearing a piece of apparel with a Confederate flag on it. Remember that when your see the Confederate Battle Flag removed from State House domes. Remember it when you see Confederate Battle Flags flying over the graves of Confederate Veterans ordered taken down. I beg you… do not turn away when these things happen. Let your voice be heard. It is our Southern Heroes whose honor is being denigrated. It is our family they are calling traitors. It is our great grandfather, or great, great grandfather, they slander in this way.
On behalf of all those men lying in forgotten graves, in small family cemeteries, all over the Southland and those buried in the finest cemeteries in the South, I thank the SCV for not forgetting. I thank the SCV for not allowing our heritage to be taken away from us. I thank the SCV for demonstrating, to the world, that the Southern spirit still lives in our hearts. For we will not bend, and we will not bow, but we will hold our heads high as proud Sons of the South, as Sons of Confederate Veterans, as proud ancestors of those men who wore the gray. Remember them always, for they are our family.

I have a proposal to make: The creation of an elite Military Force. Call it the ADF (The American Defense Force). (After the IDF… The Israeli Defense Force.) This unit would, as the name implies, be made up of US Army Ranger qualified, and trained males in all combat positions, including war planning. Service would be mandatory for a minimum of four years and members of this elite force would be subject to recall until the age of 45. All military "support" positions would be filled by non- ADF, Regular Army personnel.

Here’s the way it would work: The Commander in Chief would call in the ADF, when needed, and present them with the goal of any military offensive. From that point, neither the President, nor the Congress, would have any input into the means by which the ADF accomplished it’s mission.This would allow for “plausible deniability” by the nation’s weak-kneed leaders and allow the ADF to proceed to victory by whatever means it found necessary.There would be no more Viet Nams. No more Gulf War Ones, and no more Iraq wars. The War against Terror would already be over.

Ahhh, ‘tis but a dream, I know… but, one with roots in reality.

I used to feel comfortable saying that Democrats did not understand military power, or the application of military power. Now, as Republicans are showing the same weakness, I am no longer comfortable with that adage. The baby boomer Republicans have joined the ranks of the crowd, which thinks nothing is worth "fighting for". (Never mind that some poor dogface soldier gave his life so the entire baby boomer generation could live, and prosper, in freedom. Talk about ingratitude!

My ADF scheme is far-fetched, I know, and I describe it here with my tongue fastened firmly in my cheek! But... we are going to have to do something. Americans no longer have the stomach for a fight. Trying to fight a "politically correct war", and having a large portion of our troops assigned to "Nation Building" is getting our combat forces chewed up, resulting in the needless deaths of our servicemen and servicewomen. The micro managing of the war, by our politicians, is dragging out a conflict, which could have been over years ago. American lives are being lost just to make a political point.

When America decided the time was right to invade Europe and conquer the Nazis, The Supreme Allied Commander, General Dwight D. Eisenhower was instructed to … invade Europe, and defeat the Germans. That was, pretty much, ALL he was instructed to do. The how, why, when, and wherefore, of the invasion... and subsequent defeat of Hitler, was left up to HIM. That was a clear case of allowing the Military to do its job. We all know how that turned out. The same cannot be said for the Korean War, or the Vietnam War. Both those war efforts were micromanaged by Washington at the cost of thousands of US lives, plus… over 50 years later…. we are STILL in Korea and we lost the war in Vietnam to an inferior opponent! Clearly, our national leaders have learned nothing from their predecessor’s mistakes or from history.

Something else that is abundantly clear is the Liberal philosophy of “Winning the Hearts and Minds” of the enemy is so much wimpy bunk! Defeat them first, decisively, then make-up… if we really want to.

Today in Iraq, we are setting the stage for the third war in Iraq. We have not decisively defeated our enemy there and soon our forces will be withdrawn. The withdrawal will be temporary. Clear thinking folks know we will return to Iraq. We have to. Chances are very high that sometime in the next 17 months we will be at war, on some level, with Iran. The planet cannot allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons. There are currently only two countries capable of taking on Iran: the US and Israel. I cannot see President Bush leaving office without first doing severe damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities… at the very least.

The point is, we are fighting Iranians today in Iraq. If we go to war against Iran, we will be fighting Iraqi’s in Iran. There is no way we are going to be allowed a clean break from that part of the globe. The US is at war, and will be at war, for many years into the future. Like the Cold War, we are looking at a 40 to 50 year military engagement in the Middle East… unless, we give the US Military free rein to fight, and win, the war in that region. Until the US politicians back away and allow our military to use the “Overwhelming Force” we are capable of… this Middle Eastern War will drag on for years and years and, when it finally does peter out… there will be no clear winner. That is unacceptable.

Yes, I AM a believer in “Peace through Victory”. If the world would get out of the way and allow Israel to decisively defeat the so-called "Palestinians", there might be something that could be “called” peace in that region. But so long as we continue to drag both sides to negotiating tables and demand concessions from Israel in “pre-doomed” attempts at pacifying the so-called Palestinians, that conflict will drag on and on, and on, ad infinitum. More Israeli lives have been lost because the US, and the UN, have meddled in Israel’s politics, and in the efforts of the IDF to finally wipeout those renegades surrounding them, than have been lost in the Israel’s military engagements with their enemies. As an example, I am convinced that the only reason the Iranian nuclear facilities remain standing today is because the US refuses to allow Israel to attack. There is no doubt in my mind that had the pressure from Washington not prevented it, the Iranian nuke factories would have been smoking ruins many months ago.

So, maybe my idea for an ADF is no more than wishful thinking, but, if we don’t re-connect with reality, and understand that there are enemies out there who will stop at nothing short of completely defeating America and enslaving our citizens the US is destined to pay a price in blood you will not believe.
