Replace Lincoln with Reagan on the US Five-Dollar Bill

Replace Lincoln with Reagan on the US Five-Dollar Bill

There has been a bill floating around Congress for some time now to place the likeness of President Ronald Reagan on a piece of US currency.  The current designated currency is the fifty-dollar bill.  The legislation would have US Grant removed from that bill and replaced with Ronald Reagan.

I support placing President Ronald Reagan’s likeness on US currency.  I am just not happy about the selection of the fifty-dollar bill.  No, Reagan should be on a bill used more often by the people, who loved him, respected him, and idolized him… the common man and woman – the five-dollar bill.

President Reagan’s likeness belongs on the five-dollar bill, in place of the fictionalized Abraham Lincoln.

To half of this country Lincoln is no hero.  In the South, his name is spoken as though the speaker had something nasty in his mouth.

We southerners find it impossible to forget it was Lincoln who began the “War of Northern Aggression” with US troops in Fort Sumter, in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.

It was Lincoln who ordered his troops into the South to rape, pillage, and burn.

It was Lincoln who arrested, and jailed, newspaper editors because he didn’t like what they were writing about him.

It was Lincoln who arrested a number of the State Legislators of Maryland to keep them from voting for secession.

It was Lincoln who suspended the Writ of Habeas Corpus.

And, it was Lincoln who forced over 3 million people to remain in a union with other states with which they had no commonality short of their existence on the same North American continent.

Even today, here In the South, Southerners will hand a cashier a five-dollar bill face down.  We cannot bring ourselves to look upon the face of a man who brought so much pain and suffering to our families in the Confederate States of America.  We cannot forget the occupation forces of the Northern Armies still in residence all over the South.

So, I propose removing Lincoln from that particular piece of currency and replacing him with President Ronald Reagan, a man who reduced taxes, brought down the wall between the two Germanies, and brought the 40 year long “Cold War” to an end, and lifted the constant threat of nuclear annihilation to this country.

Ronald Reagan returned optimism to the citizens of this country, and a belief in the “Can Do” America.  He gave us back our self-respect.  We can never thank him enough!

Compare the two men, and there is no way Lincoln’s likeness should be on that piece of currency.  On the other hand, there is no excuse for not placing Reagan’s likeness in its stead!  None at all.
