Democrats Ready to Muzzle Free Speech With the Resurrection of the Fairness Doctrine!

The “Fairness Doctrine” is a Fraud! The imposition of that rule/law will play havoc with the broadcasting Industry in the US today. Then... they'll come after the citizen journalists on the Internet!

First... the Fairness Doctrine for Broadcasters… and then… the Internet! Bet on it!

Just a few years afterthe Second World War, the Government yoked the broadcast Industry, in the USA, with the insufferably heavy burden of the so-called “Fairness Doctrine”. (Note: the Fairness Doctrine lasted from 1949 to 1987.) To maintain your license, as a broadcaster, if you put anything on the air, which was controversial, you absolutely had to put on the “other side” of the issue. The “Other Side”, in the real world, comes in multiples of more than two… believe me on this!

Many AM broadcast stations only have “x”-number of hours they can broadcast in a single day. Now, if one must air the “other side” of the controversial subject that station decides to put on its air, much of the day is spent. And, folks, I have to tell you, the most difficult programming to sell, for any broadcaster, is the so-called “Public Affairs” programs. Why? Because, hardly anybody listens to that type of program. Listeners stay away in droves! If a broadcaster, not supported by the government (that is to say, your tax money), relies upon sales of commercial time to exist… then the Fairness Doctrine will play havoc with that stations revenue. Broadcasting, as with any other business, MUST make money; it MUST make a profit, or perish! Broadcasters know that Conservative programming sells and Liberal programming does not sell! That is a fact of life in the US.

So, what did broadcaster do from 1949 to 1987? They aired as little Public Affairs programs as they could and still hold their licenses. Public Affairs programming was aired in the wee hours of the morning, or during the early morning hours of Sunday morning when broadcast stations traditionally have the lowest volume of listeners of the entire broadcast week. It was a juggling act.

In the late 1980’s the Fairness Doctrine was rescinded. AM broadcast stations, which had been hanging on by the skin of their teeth, suddenly found that people would listen to conservative talk radio programs. Those stations grabbed that life preserver with all their might and “Talk Radio” took off… and saved the AM Broadcast Industry in America.

There was a problem, however. Listeners would listen to right wing, or conservative, talk radio. But, when a station placed a left wing, or liberal talk show on, the listeners tuned out. Any period of time, in a broadcast station’s day, which has no listeners cannot be sold. So, broadcaster dropped those left-wing shows like hot potatoes!

The AM broadcast market was reborn!

However, the problem with liberal talk shows irks the living daylights out of the left wing politicos in America and they have been on a slow burn since the late 80’s. They have been waiting for an opportunity to re-impose the Fairness Doctrine… not to balance the programming of broadcast stations, as they claim, but to force the AM Market, especially, to drop the right wing talk shows. And it WILL work.

In order for the stations to continue to air such shows as Rush Limbaugh, they will be required, by law, to put on left wing shows which will cost them listeners and money, and… reduce their income. So, the stations will be forced to remove the right wing talk shows to stay within the law… THAT is the “Fairness Doctrine”.

That’s what the re-imposition of the Fairness Doctrine is all about. Not to get more left wing, liberal, talk radio shows on the air… but to get the already existing right wing, conservative, talk shows OFF THE AIR! And… it WILL work!

How do I know? I spent a 30-year broadcasting career having to find ways to work around that hated requirement in order to stay within the law. It was a miserable way to do business.

The Democrats never change. It’s always the “same song next verse”. And that’s what we have here. They’re going to force this piece of legislation on the nation’s broadcasters and the American public. You see, they must! It is the way they insure their hold on power. They MUST control YOUR sources of information. The Mainstream Media is, basically, the “Media Wing of the Democrat Party”. The independent broadcasters, and the community stations, and the company owned chains of stations, must be brought to heel… and the Fairness Doctrine will do it.

There is absolutely no doubt the Democrats will make every attempt to re-impose this Stalinist-type “law” or “regulation”… if not by the Congress, then certainly by installing their minions among the commissioners at the FCC where the rule will be issued, again, “with the force of law”. It is the Democrats way of “controlling the flow of information” and it is right out of the “dictator’s” handbook. They’re intent upon ramming their theocracy of socialism, down the throats of Americans in any way they can. The Fairness Doctrine will stifle the free expression of opinion and strangle free speech on the broadcast media in the United States.

Do not kid yourself. If the socialist Democrats are successful in controlling the free flow of information on the broadcast media, they will not hesitate to attack the internet, or the way Americans use the internet, to express opinions other than those of the left wing in this country.

Those of us on the right side of the political spectrum in America warned Americans of the crazed power trip the left would indulge in if given control of the Congress. It has only just begun. Their “child-like” naiveté is dangerous to the nation. Under Democrat control, freedom of speech is tolerated so long as that speech is censored by them and agrees with that party’s philosophy, which, of course, is subject to change at any given time in order to maintain control of the reins of power by their party.

Voices from the right have warned, many, many, times that Democrats out of power are funny, but IN power they are dangerous! It was never meant to be funny! It was always meant as a warning to Americans, that Democrat control of the US government is as close to a political dictatorship as is possible, at this moment in time, in this country. But little by little, the American will for freedom, and free expression, is being damped down. Each new generation of Americans values their freedom less than the generation preceding them. Soon, American Freedom will be no more. Care to guess who will be in control of the US government on that red-letter day?

As of this writing any Fairness Doctrine Bill passed by both Houses of Congress, and sent to the President for his signature, will be vetoed, just as President Reagan vetoed the last attempt by the Left wing Congress to resurrect this Marxist attempt at information control, and control of free speech. However, if a Democrat is elected President in 2008, and the Democrats maintain control of the Congress… the Fairness Doctrine will certainly, without a doubt, be one of the very first bills passed from the new Congress and signed into law by the Democrat President. In order to understand Democrats you must remember… Democrats exist for only two things in life. That is… the acquisition of power and maintaining that power!

Looming as a huge target for the Democrat’s control of information is that Super Highway of Information… the Internet. Do not think they have no plans to silence the voices of dissent, the voices from the right, on this “network of citizen journalists”! They cannot allow the Internet to exist as it currently exists. So rest assured, they will be coming after the Internet. They have no choice. We bloggers are a danger to them… so we must be silenced. Conservative bloggers should be prepared. Make ready. It’s coming!

Of all the crazed global warming proposals being put forth by the new masters of Congress, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Barbara Boxer, chairperson of the Public Works Committee, by far the worst would be a mandated cap-and-trade program that would supposedly offset carbon dioxide emissions.

This program is horrid on several counts. First, there is not a scintilla of scientific evidence—other than disputed and dubious computer models—to suggest that any significant global warming is occurring. The warming and cooling of the Earth is an entirely natural phenomenon.

Second, carbon dioxide (CO2) plays only a minor role as a so-called greenhouse gas. The predominant greenhouse gas is water vapor produced by the world’s oceans. The Earth has been warming since the last Ice Age and, even if a mild warming were to occur, the only result would be an extended period to grow more crops and to enhance the growth of the world’s forests that generate the oxygen on which all humans depend for life.

Third, the notion that man-made CO2 emissions—the result of industrial activity, the use of cars and trucks for transportation, and a host of other things humans do—is a major contributor to “climate change” is almost too silly to believe. Recently, the European Union identified cow and sheep burping as an even greater threat than human activity, but ruminants have been doing this long before human civilization began.

Similarly, climate change went on long before industrialization occurred and continues today as always, almost entirely the result of the Sun’s cyclical activity, the oceans, volcanic activity, and other factors totally beyond the control of mankind.

To get an idea how bogus cap-and-trade emissions credits are, one need only look to see who is behind this spurious campaign. At or near the top of that list is the United Nations for whom global warming has become the Holy Grail. By positioning themselves to save the Earth, the U.N. sets itself up to control all aspects of life upon it. Supporting the U.N. program are the endless non-governmental organizations that benefit from keeping people fearful the Earth will come to an end without their programs to save it.

The adage, however, is “follow the money” and here’s where we find the greatest supporters of cap-and-trade emissions credits. Huge financial firms such as Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are betting they can make billions through government mandated programs in which vast amounts of money move back and forth through “climate exchanges” where companies trade their alleged emissions reduction activities for credits, i.e., real cash.

Just as Al Gore tells us that he can continue living an extravagant lifestyle, using private jets and living in a home that uses many times more electricity than the average home, because he buys carbon “offsets”, this obvious fiction will be embraced as large corporations and small realize what a cash cow cap-and-trade can be.

It’s already happening. In April, the Financial Times revealed the results of its investigation. It turned out that “some organizations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place. Others are meanwhile making big profits from carbon trading for very small expenditure and, in some cases, for clean-ups that they would have made anyway.”

The Financial Times investigation concluded that there were “widespread instances of people and organizations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.” Further charges included the fact that the brokers for these credits were “providing services of questionable or no value.” Think back now to those “climate exchanges” the large banking houses have embraced.

When even The New York Times, one of the oldest and greatest global warming propaganda sheets around, ridicules a carbon neutral lifestyle, you have got to know just how idiotic it is. A recent Times article quoted Dennis Hayes, one of the gurus of environmentalism, as saying, “The worst of the carbon-offset programs resemble the Catholic Church’s sale of indulgences back before the Reformation.”

The absolute worst part of these cap-and-trade emissions programs is the way they will affect the American consumer. A recent report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) delivered a devastating indictment of the proposal.

In brief, the CBO concluded that the CO2 cap-and-trade scheme would increase home energy costs and the price of gas, unfairly punishing the poor while transferring wealth to the rich who have investments in these industries. Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) noted that “Today’s report confirms what Europe, Canada, and many other nations have come to realize about CO2 cap-and-trade schemes: The entire carbon debate has been skewed toward the least effective and most economically damaging of the various approaches.”

Not one of the nations that signed onto the Kyoto Protocol to limit their CO2 emissions has ever met the standards to which they agreed and none ever will. The cap-and-trade scheme is just another version of these meaningless limits, but one that is designed to enrich those who engage in the smoke-and-mirrors trade in such credits.

If a Democrat-controlled Congress permits this to occur, the global warming scam will have been brought to its full culmination and purpose, the enrichment of those who have been perpetrating it and those who seek to benefit from it.

… and there is the dirty little secret the Dems don’t want you to know.

You have to pull the curtains back, every once in a while, to see who is pulling the strings and why those strings are being pulled. In this case it is all smoke and mirrors.

So why, then, are the Dems raising so much Cain to get President Bush to bring the troops home. Because… if they can force him to do that, they can blame all the bad things, they KNOW will happen, when we leave Iraq, on the Bush Administration (should the Dems win the presidency as I expect them to next year). If, however, Bush does not bring the troops home, the Dems are stuck with a war, which will then be theirs, lock, stock, and barrel… and that is the last thing they want! Why? Because then, they will have to try to explain to their supporters, and the anti-war crowd, exactly why THEY won’t bring the troops home! See what a lovely corner they may have painted themselves into?

Now, isn’t this exciting, boys and girls??? No… what this is… is politics… or what passes for politics in America.

Look, no matter when the US pulls out of Iraq, we will not pull out completely. We will leave troops behind to “train the Iraqi troops”. We will leave US troops behind to “train Iraqi police”. We will leave troops behind to secure the oil fields and equipment, plus the Sailors and Marines aboard US Warships in the Persian Gulf, ready for immediate insertion if needed.

So, we are looking at an estimated 80,000 combat troops which would be left in Iraq if, and when, the US pulls out. Now, don’t forget those combat troops must have support while they are there… so… add those support troops to that 80,000 combats troops and you have well over 100,000 troops to remain in Iraq. Let’s see, we have what, 160,000 troops there now? See the slight of hand at work here?

I have been telling you for some time that we are NOT leaving Iraq. We have built permanent bases in Iraq. Really nice bases, complete with runways and everything needed for a permanent base which will support thousands of American troops in Iraq.

The bottom line is: We ain’t’ going home! Not for a very long time!

If you have bought into the Democrats line they have been trying to sell, and have successfully sold to many Americans, which is that they will get US troops out of Iraq, you have been duped. It ain’t gonna happen.

Look closely at what they are saying. Closely.

Oh, the Dems will make a great show of pulling troops out of Iraq and SOME will, no doubt, be pulled out… but not in the numbers you will be led to believe. Their “willing accomplices” in the mainstream media will act as the Democrat’s conduit of propaganda to you, the gullible American citizen, which will be designed to placate the anti- war crowd. But… in reality, US combat troops will be in Iraq, fighting the Iraqi insurgents, and Iranian terrorists, for a very long time… many more years, in fact.

Now, don’t you feel better? I know I do!

We now know that the Iranian backed terrorists Hezbollah has established a training base and a base if operations in South America. There’s an area in South America where the borders of Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina come together known as the Tri-Corners. Hezbollah has set up base camp there. It seems there are about 25,ooo Arabs in the area offspring of parent s who fled the Middle East after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and again in 1985 after the Lebanese civil war.

From the Tri-Corners area it is a straight shot to the US/Mexican border and it is extremely easy to infiltrate the Southern US by slipping across that border as millions have done and continue to do. The CIA tells us if is far more difficult to apprehend Terrorist sneaking across the border than the poor Mexicans, because the Terrorist have plenty of money with which to pay the best smugglers available to get them safely across.

Should Americans be worried? You’re durned tooting we should! Our sworn “fight to the death” enemy is entrenched just south of our wide open, extremely vulnerable, border and they make no secret of their goal to slip into the US and kill as many Americans, men, women, and children, as they possibly can before going to meet Allah, or whoever.

Ok, so what do we do about it?

First, close and secure our southern border with Mexico… build an honest to goodness cement wall, 20 feet high, the length of the Mexican/US border. Place armed guards atop that wall with orders to shoot anyone attempting to climb over or under that wall headed north.

Next we should dispatch UAV’s to the Tri-Corners area of South American and seek out and locate those Hezbollah training camps. Once they are located, we should bomb the living daylights out of them, with, or without, the permission of the hosting countries. If it is possible to insert special forces into that are, we should do so with orders to locate and kill the Hezbollah leaders not only in the Tri-Corners area but anywhere they are found in South America, or Central America, or even Mexico. We can’t do that within our own borders due to the Posse Comitatus Act, which forbids the US Military from acting as law enforcement within the boundaries of the US.

Will any of this be dome”

Some of it, perhaps. I suspect we already have, or have had, UAV spy planes over that area and most likely have located those camps. I suspect we have Special Forces in the area targeting the leaders and liquidating them as quickly and quietly as possible. As to the bombing, I don’t expect that to happen.

Will this help?

No!

Look, sooner or later we are going to have to fight Hezbollah, and the other terrorist groups, on the home soil of America. There simply is no way around it. And we cannot expect to have victory until the American people are united in the single goal of wiping out the terrorists. Until then, the American body count will continue to rise. In other words: it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets any better!

Cable TV Companies Need Stiff Regulation by the FCC

As I sat down to absorb myself in the a Senate debate yesterday, I learned that my Cable Company had taken C-SPAN - 2 off my cable. No doubt they replaced it with some “shopping network”, or something of equally inane, mind numbing, pocket fleecing, programming.

I currently pay in excess of $70.00 a month for channels, which are never viewed. I dare say 90% of the channels on my Cable hook-up are never viewed in my home. Yet, I must pay for them in order to get the handful of channels I do watch.

It is past time for the FCC to force Cable Providers in this country to offer a Carte Blanche system for their subscribers, which will allow subscribers to pick and choose only the channels they want on their cable hook-ups. No more packaging of good quality channels with channels of much lesser quality and of practically no interest to subscribers.

Now, I am not so naive as to believe that the cost per channel will not escalate… for it surely will! The Cable companies will scream “bloody murder” to the FCC and to Congress that the “Carte Blanche” rule will put them out of business. It won’t… but that will be their argument. In the meantime, the cost per channel will shoot through the roof. To get the handful of channels I now actually watch, will most likely cost me as much as that which I pay now for the truck load of channels I never watch, at all.

The cable companies have been allowed to run amok and prices for their services have risen out of all portion to the services their customer receives. It is now time for the federal government to step in. Hard regulation is now called for. When companies doing business in this country, themselves, are unable, or unwilling, to serve their customers responsibly, then they are opening the door, and holding that door open, for government intervention. That is what the Cable TV companies in this country have done. Our new Federal Communications Commission is about to enter through that open door. What follows will not be pretty. But Cable TV providers simply have to understand… whatever happens… they brought it on themselves.

I have been a subscriber for at least 30 years to the same Cable Company, if not the largest, then certainly one of the largest, cable companies in America. I am now investigating the advantages of switching to a satellite provider. Cable rates have consistently risen over those 30 years and the quality of the product entering my home has not risen commensurate with rates. Something must change. It appears I will make the change.

As a 30-year veteran of the broadcasting business, this was a difficult blog posting to write, but at some point, those who dance must pay the fiddler. It is past time for the Cable Companies in America to ante up!

A Southerner Speaks !

(On the tenth day of the month of May we folks in North Carolina and South Carolina celebrate Confederate Memorial Day. All month long Confederate Memorial Day celebrations will occur all over the two states. In keeping with the spirit of this celebration of our brave ancestors I offer the following article which originally ran in Febuary of 2006. I hope you find it informative, not only for the historical facts but informative as to why Southerners revere their Confederate heroes.

I had the good fortune to have an unexpected speaking engagement, this past weekend, at a Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp. It is always good to speak to a group with whom I have so much in common.

I’m a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, in fact, the Lt. Commander of a North Carolina Camp.

It was a short notice, and I had less than a day to prepare, so I stuck with a subject I knew a little about. That is the “safe” thing to do when you are speaking before a historical, or heritage, group and the “Sons” is both.

I chose to speak on “Our Confederate Soldier” as opposed to “The Confederate Soldier” as the latter has been defined by Hollywood and revisionist historians. The latter also bears little resemblance to the real Confederate soldier.

The Confederate Soldier has been slandered and libeled for 140 years. Those who would drag his name through the muck and mire are still at it… full throttle.

Organizations who claim roots to slavery in this country (whether their ancestors arrived before, or after, 1865, it doesn’t seem to matter) deride the SCV and that beautiful old battlefield emblem the Confederate Battle Flag.

It would seem that the truth doesn’t matter. Their hatred for all things Confederate even includes some of their own ancestors, as it is a fact that African Americans served in the armed forces of the Confederacy. We know this. We can prove this, but try to convince the campus elite who gain favor with minorities for lambasting all things Southern. The fact that blacks served in the Confederate armed forces can be documented… means nothing. They have made up their minds and we have been unable to dent their armor of ignorance.

There is hardly a day that goes by that we don’t hear of, or read of, an incident involving a Confederate symbol of some kind, which has offended somebody. Our limp wristed, jello spined, politicians come down on the side of the complainant rather than on the side of truth. That leaves the southerner, the direct ancestors of the brave men of the Confederacy, to slowly twist in the wind, as we become targets for the real bigots and the real racists in America today.

When I was a boy there was a popular song with these lyrics: “Save your Confederate money boys, the South’s gonna rise, again!” Well, the South has risen again. Today the South is arguably the most prosperous part of the country. Very much as it was in the 1850’s the South has come under fire again, as a result of envy. Other Americans are jealous of our prosperity, even of our mild climate, of our tenacious hold on our history and our honor.

We have thousands of visitors to this fair part of the USA from “other” parts of the country. Unfortunately, they do not return the courtesy, nor the hospitality, offered them, here, by the native Southerners.

Look, down here, if you go… to visit another man… in his house… you don’t criticize the furnishings of that home. You don’t complain when he says grace over his food and invokes the blessings of God on his family and the guests in his home. You don’t complain about the way he does things, or doesn’t do things. We Southerners understand that a person’s home is his, well, his HOME. We keep any complaints we have to ourselves.

Unfortunately, the influx of “other” into our fair homeland has brought clash after clash as the visitors complain about nearly everything Southern. The question immediately comes to mind; if they are so dissatisfied with the way we do things here… why did they come down here to begin with?

The thing that really burns me up is that a good number of Southerners who have been indoctrinated in our schools and universities will agree with them. These mis-led Southerners don’t know their history. They don’t know who they are. They have no appreciation for the trials and tribulations the South has met, head on, and triumphed over.

All they know about the so-called “Civil War” is that the North was good and the South was bad because the South had slaves. Nobody bothered to tell them, during that expensive education their Southern parents paid for, that Slavery was LEGAL… that the North had slaves, too. Nobody bothered to tell them that the north controlled the slave industry out of the New England states with their fleets of slave ships and their hundreds of rum distilleries which produced the rum with which they purchased the slaves from other Africans, and Arabs, in Africa. They don’t know how the South was bled nearly dry, by the Federal government, to keep the US afloat economically. 70% of the taxes flowing into the Federal coffers came from just the SOUTHERN STATES! That is documented fact.

The story is told that when a politician asked Lincoln why he didn’t just let the South go, he replied: “but who would pay for the government?”

As the years go by and we become more distant from the Great War for Southern Independence, as the intellectuals on our college campuses re-write history to suit themselves, and as the Politically Correct Crowd continues to push their agenda to trivialize all things Southern, we are losing sight of our Southern heroes. Their historic deeds are being buried. Our Southern icons, such as the Confederate Battle Flag, are being hidden from public sight. The old song “Dixie” can no longer be sung in public.

Things have surely changed. I can remember that as a lad in High school, on Friday nights, when the community gathered at the local High School for the weekly football game, the crowd would stand as the Star Spangled Banner was played by the school band and the crowd would remain standing as the wonderful song “Dixie” was followed hot on the heels on the first national anthem. Then a great round of applause would roll through the stadium and the game would begin.

Many Southern schools, today, forbid the wearing of any piece of clothing with a confederate icon… of any kind… on it.

Just a few hundred yards from one such Southern high school is a mass grave of American Revolutionary soldiers massacred by the British Cavalry Commander Tarleton as they dared to fight the British Crown for our right to free speech. A right those men, who were the grandfathers of the Confederate soldiers, were willing to die for… a right denied us, as ancestors of the Confederate soldier, today, and those kids, just down the road from that huge mound which holds the remains of the men who were willing to fight and die for that freedom, are not allowed to express their pride in their heritage. How do I know this? Because that school is my Alma Mater.
Please remember that when you open your news papers and see that another southern child has been sent home from school for wearing a piece of apparel with a Confederate flag on it. Remember that when your see the Confederate Battle Flag removed from State House domes. Remember it when you see Confederate Battle Flags flying over the graves of Confederate Veterans ordered taken down. I beg you… do not turn away when these things happen. Let your voice be heard. It is our Southern Heroes whose honor is being denigrated. It is our family they are calling traitors. It is our great grandfather, or great, great grandfather, they slander in this way.
On behalf of all those men lying in forgotten graves, in small family cemeteries, all over the Southland and those buried in the finest cemeteries in the South, I thank the SCV for not forgetting. I thank the SCV for not allowing our heritage to be taken away from us. I thank the SCV for demonstrating, to the world, that the Southern spirit still lives in our hearts. For we will not bend, and we will not bow, but we will hold our heads high as proud Sons of the South, as Sons of Confederate Veterans, as proud ancestors of those men who wore the gray. Remember them always, for they are our family.
