The Presidential Candidates Have Entered the “Old Confederacy”. May God have Mercy on Them!
***********************
Next comes the South Carolina Primary on January 19th. It is not going to be pretty, especially for the GOP.
South Carolina is one of the most republican states in the nation. They love three things: God, the Confederate Battle Flag, and Conservatism. (Not necessarily in that order!)
So far the GOP candidates have had an easy go of it, but now they are entering the lions den. As a native South Carolinian, I can attest that those hot-tempered men, you used to read about, still populate my home state (as do some of the most beautiful women in the world!). And NOTHING gets them hotter than a slight of the Confederate Battle Flag. Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, and McCain have all shot themselves in the foot before ever entering the fray in South Carolina. You can bet Southern activists smell the blood of the wounded candidates and they will go after them like starving sharks. And they should.
Huckabee is a joke in South Carolina. He is seen, as the second coming of Jimmy Carter and my fellow “Sandlappers” do not want that! Besides they have had their own Governor Beasley. He served one term, said that God told him to take the Confederate Battle Flag down, and was promptly shown the door! However, my money is on Huckabee winning the Republican primary in South Carolina. Why? Because, so far, unlike his fellow southerners Thompson and McCain, (Yes, Arizona was a part of the Confederacy during the “Late Unpleasantness” between 1861 and 1865.) Huckabee hasn’t openly taken a swipe at the sacred banner the Confederate Battle Flag.
I’m probably wrong with this prediction…. as I usually am, so, don’t bet on it. But, keep in mind that South Carolina has an “open” primary. That means that a registered republican can vote for a democrat candidate on primary day… and… registered democrats can vote for republicans on primary day. It is a time honored practice, in South Carolina, for registered voters, from each side, to vote for the opposition candidate they feel would be easier for their candidate to beat in the general election n November. So, don’t bank on a great deal of accuracy from the polls.
No, dear reader, South Carolina voters are not Iowa voters and certainly not New Hampshire voters. South Carolinians spring from Scot-Irish genes. They are modern day Celts. Ask any military man who has fought beside a sandlapper.
The republicans have entered the maw of the conservative movement in the South. They are certainly going to be chewed up a bit.
A fellow sandlapper, Chuck Demastus, has an article, over at: Southern Heritage News and Views Hotspot, about all this. It is a comprehensive article about South Carolina politics, from the conservative viewpoint, and one you really need to read if you are to understand what is about to happen in the next few days in South Carolina. You’ll find Chuck’s article at:

Now that you are up on SC politics, sit back, and watch the fun.

ReplyDelete*******************************
That is why I am a registered Republican. Here in Ohio we aren't afforded that luxury, So in the primaries I vote for the Republican guy who seems to be the one who will do the least bit of damage to the economy, freedoms and our nation as a whole (probably Ron Paul this year) But in the general elections I vote for the Best & smartest, candidate who puts America and the Middle Class first, and as always that is a Democrat.....
On another note, what happened to Texas Fred's polling place?
I like your blog. Very patriotic and I definitely enjoy finding and reading another conservative. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteOn Texas Fred's Polling Place... I haven't heard. If he pulled it, I didnt get the word. Of course, there is always that ten percent who DON'T get the word! I'll check on it and find out.
ReplyDeleteFrank... I just checked out Fred's Polling Place and it is CLOSED... due to lack of interest".
ReplyDeleteThat was an awfully tough undertaking. I've played a around with polls and it is every bit as difficult as coming up with a topic to write on every day. Plus, Fred has his hands full with all his other endeavors. And, yeah, I'll miss it, too!
Maybe he'll bring it back one day.
Best regards,
