There’s something we want to get off our chests.
This blog is accessible all over the world. So far, we’ve had respondents from as far away as Russia and Australia. But, by far, the comments with the most rude, and crude, language have come from residents of the Northern United States.
Now, we don’t want to make this a “Yankee vs. Rebel” issue. If we wished to do that, we’d simply start another blog. That’s not what we’re about, here at INSIGHT.
We’re not prudes. I, personally, can hold my own in nearly any “cussing” contest. But, we draw the line when it comes to using profane language in the presence of children and ladies. Yes, Dear Ladies, we Southerners still honor womanhood.
As I said above, I am a Southern male. My ancestors DID fight for the Confederacy and “if the thing were to be done over”, as President Jefferson Davis once said, I’d be right there among them. But, the issue has been settled… for now.
I love my country, the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. I volunteered to wear the uniform of my country and soldiered, as best I could, when called upon to do so.
Yes, we are a bit touchy about the scars left by the Union Forces on the landscape of the South. We consider it rude, and downright offensive, for the implanted northerner to arrogantly suggest that northerners do things differently, therefore better. Southerners would never dream of such behavior in another’s home.
Yes, we do believe the South is a special place, blessed by God, and we cherish it.
We are tired of shouldering all the blame for Slavery when the Northern states ran the Slave Trade and profited mightily from it, yet lay claim to sparkling clean hands when the subject is raised.
For the record, there were 5 slave-holding states in the North at the time of the Civil War. One of those states was Lincoln’s home state of Illinois.
Rhode Island and Massachusetts led the Slave trade in slave ships and slaves, bought and sold, trading rum for slaves in Africa and sailing their shiploads of shackled slaves back to their northern ports to be off loaded and sold. No Southern Ships ever trafficked in slaves. The Confederate Battle Flag never flew over a slave ship. The flag the slaves first saw, on the ship, and when coming down the gangplank, was the Stars and Stripes of the USA.
When the War Between the States broke out, the two cities with the most slaves, per capita, were: Charleston, SC… and New York City!
Yes, we are tired of carrying the entire blame for that horrid institution. But, having said that, we are even MORE tired of the history of the North’s “neck deep” involvement with the slave trade being buried and, or, glossed over, as though in didn’t happen.
The Confederate States passed the first “ANTI-SLAVE LAWS” in this country! We strongly suggest you read the Constitution of the Confederate States of America. It is easily found on the Internet.
So, if you are going to use profane language, and vulgarities, and try belittling the South, then we prefer you visit some other Blogsite. We do not want you on this site.
We suggest you read the header at the top of this page. It plainly says comments with Profanity and excessive Vulgarity will be deleted.
That is a promise.

I think the dukes of hazzard is a pretty fair portrayal of southern life.
ReplyDeleteSo you want to fight the civil war again? remember Shermans march? you want some more payback?

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for making my point for me. I'm going to leave your comment up, so the entire blogosphere can see for themselves the degradation, lack of knowledge of the history of this country, and the monumental arrogance of your species.
Sir, I pity you and your ilk.
May God have mercy on you.
Respectfully,

I certaininly do not agree with Mr. Longstreet. And I certainly think he has an over idealized view of the South. but some of us Southerners are just like that. All regions have their good and their bad. The North has just as many "hill billies" as the South.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I post a name, or at least a pseudonym. Even though I can't spell.
