Gun Control... Control the Citizenry

This Post first ran in February of 2005!

A government cannot control its citizens without gun control in the extreme. I mean… taking away the guns of those citizens.

The founders of the US understood this and they thoughtfully granted the citizens of the US the right to bear arms. So long as the citizens exercise that right we will be free. Soon after giving it up, we will be a totalitarian nation. It is just that simple.

I have heard all the arguments for taking away our guns and they all ring hollow when presented side by side with the facts.

Look, if you want to reduce gun deaths in America, you have to change people’s conduct. The gun is just a cold piece of machinery. It does what it is commanded to do.

The silly argument, which says the founders intended only members of the Militia to possess arms, is ridiculous. OK, who is the militia? Huh? No, it is not the National Guard. No, it is not the Reserves, and no, it is not the organized Armed Forces of the United States. Let’s look at the Federal Law on the militia. Paraphrasing the US Code title 10, section 311: “all males born in the US are automatically members of the US Militia from age 17 through age 46”.

I’m not a member of the NRA. But, I wish them well.

Our freedom is far too precious to allow the anti gun lobby to take it away. The gun bought us our freedom and it keeps us free. Take away the gun and those with murder in their hearts will still murder… by other means. Remember, Cain had not a single gun.

In the Nation’s capitol, where gun ownership is illegal, they have more murders than any other place in the country. How can that be? Murder comes from the heart, not from the gun.

A wise man once said: “Freedom stands on five boxes: The Soap Box, The Ballot Box, the Jury Box, the Witness Box, and… the Cartridge Box.

There can be no compromise with those who would disarm our populace. We must fight to keep our second amendment rights, for nothing less than our freedom is at stake.

One of our founding fathers had this to say on our right to bear arms:[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. ---James Madison,
The Federalist Papers, No. 46.

Finally, no less a person than “founding father” Patrick Henry said the following:“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined.”

Never give up your gun for it is your freedom.

  1. Are you for real? Americans are much more in danger of fellow Americans carrying guns than they ever are from terrorists.

    Bushco has certainly suckered you!

Look at the facts, and do not believe the spin and lies that come from vested interest. Your own Government agencies have all the information you need to get a true perspective on gun control.

When I look at the figures, it seems to me that there is a war going on in America that NO-ONE cares about.

  2. Mark, my naive friend, FDR was in his second term when I was born. I have lived thru every presidential administration since and I hardly think Bush has duped me!

As a matter of fact, you may remember that when Clinton was elected, the sale of firearms went thru the roof. Americans were afraid the Dems wold sell us out and the populace wanted to be armed, against the government, and any enemy that the Dems allowed entrance into our country thru their own dim-wittedness.

I grew up around guns, hand guns, shot guns, rifles, home made zipguns (made a few myself.) I carried weapons on my person for half my life and as I write this I have a weapon on my belt.

As a former memeber of the military, a hunter, and a former police officer, I have seen the best and the worst of gun use.

Sir, with all due respect, if you are fearful of guns, don't try to transfer your fear onto me or other readers of this blog. It won't work.

We live in a world that is real. It is a dangerous world and... whether you like to admit it to yourself, ot not, your police cannot defend you. They do the best they can... with what they have. But between the lack of funds, lack of training, and the liberal Congresspersons, and liberal judges, and justices, who have made the laws to protect the gulty, you are at risk every single minute of every single day.

If you wish to be safe, you had better see to it yourself.

We live in dangerous times. Be prepared.

  3. Way to go, Lonstreet.

I'm way more frightened of that young man's attitude toward freedom than I have ever been of guns!

    Hang in there!

  4. Get real, Mark!

Do away with American's guns and you do away with our Republic. It's as simple as that!

  5. I agree with you here, Longstreet.

I just wish more conservatives would defend the ENTIRE Bill of Rights, and not just the 2nd Amendment. The Bush administration has waged an all-out assault on the Constitution, especially the First Amendment (so-called "free speech zones" and arresting protesters) and the Fourth Amendment (NSA and other domestic spying programs).

Do you have the courage to defend the full Bill or Rights, Longstreet?

  6. Poor Mark, thank goodness he is a minority thinker. I do belong to the NRA, because it is the best, cheapest and most effective way to protect my gun rights AND they have a good hunting magazine that goes with membership, can't beat that! Semper Fi, You'all.

  7. Well you guys, where are the gun toating right wingers at now? I am a liberal and i am so tired of the all the amendments getting walked all over, where are you now? The second Amendment will be the last one to go. First they have to get us into a state of martial law, which is coming soon. Then it all goes out the window. Please quit attacking the left long enough to see what is really happening under the guise of war and terroism. I would much rather be a victim of a terrorist act perpetrated by some wacko nut job then be trampled by my own government. all this we need guns to be free is lip service, the only gun control I condone is hitting what you are aiming at. I am looking for a leader, a real one who can rally the U.S. to rise up and take back what has been lost in the past 5 years. I told Kerry's people who called me and moveon.org, they are spineless we need our freedoms restored now, calling for vote and fillibusters is not enough. All you still convinced that the Republican party is for freedom and small government, "Take the cotton out of your ears and stick it in your mouth."

  8. Shovels don't shovel snow: People shovel snow.

No, a shovel is not merely a tool. A shovel is designed for one thing only: Shovels are designed to shovel snow. Shovels are dangerous to everyone. They are a danger to the owner, they are a danger to the owner's family, and they are a danger to society at large. I propose that there be a national shovel registry. If you have a shovel, we want to know about it. For the safety of everyone, non-ergonomic shovels should be banned. If you are not using an ergonomically designed shovel, well, all of society is put at risk. People die every year because shovels; people turn up in hospitals because of shovels. Elderly men and women are shoveling their driveways and walkways every year, only to suffer heart attacks, strokes, and shovel related injuries. Shovels don't shovel snow. People shovel snow. That is the position of the stauch pro-shovel supporters but, is this really an argument? They would say "We admit, shovels can be used to shovel snow but, not everyone is shovelling snow." To refute: What does anyone need a shovel for, unless they are shovelling snow? I believe that a person would only need to have a shovel if they were planning to shovel snow. There are plenty of elderly people who remember a time when most people had owned a shovel. They needed shovels, there was snow, and it needed to be shovelled. When there was snow, they would shovel it. Certainly, it is important that the police force be equipped with shovels. When there is bad snow, and other people have shovels and are intent on shovelling snow, then the police will either have to stop them from shovelling snow or the police will have to shovel snow. If it comes to that, I believe that the police have the right to shovel snow in the event that they find someone with a shovel who is ready to use it. The police must assume that anyone who has a shovel is ready to use it.
It is important that we pursue this fight against shovels. You can have donate to your neighbourhood Shovel's for Money programs but, most importantly, we should ban ownership of all shovels.
