Just so we’re clear, I don’t care that the proposed deal with the UAE company to manager those terminals in six of our ports was a good business deal.
Every now and again, you just have to stand against something that your heart tells you is just wrong. The port’s deal was wrong.
You see, the thing that makes a business deal with a Muslim country different than a deal with, say, a British company is, frankly, 9/11.
It just doesn’t make sense to me to enter into a deal that might, I stress might, present a risk for national security. Especially, when we do not have to make the deal.
Whatever possessed the President to think the American people were ready to embrace a Muslim company in charge of certain terminals in our ports is simply beyond my comprehension.
I have heard leading conservatives defending the deal and I listened with wonder. I marveled at the disconnect between the conservative speaker and the rank and file conservatives here in the trenches.
Look, seared into the collective memories of the conservative Americans is the sight of those planes crashing into the World Trade Center buildings, holes being blown into the sides of our naval vessels, the Marine barracks, in Beirut, being bombed into rubble, and numerous other deeds of terrorism aimed at killing as many Americans as possible, and the President, and a handful of elitist conservatives, ask us to dismiss those acts and embrace a Muslim country wishing to do business in such a strategic area as our seaports? They must have been out of their minds!
Regardless of what the liberal politicians, and liberal media, in the US would like us to believe, and the professional diplomats would like us to believe, we have not bought into the myth that Islam is a "religion of peace". Not with the body count of dead Americans as high as it already is... and climbing. No, the average American is no where near ready to forgive and forget.
We do not care that it will cost us money. We cannot equate money with the blood of dead Americans.
If the Muslim nations wish to punish us by cutting off trade with us, then by all means, let them do so. If they wish to stop buying our goods and services, then, by all means, let them. The less we have to do with them the better I like it. And, I believe the average American shares that attitude... to one degree or another.
There comes a time when you have to say: "this far and no farther". We have reached that point in our relations with all Muslim countries.
No more unnecessary security risks. Don’t we have enough graves now? Don’t we have enough scars from acts of terrorism perpetrated on Americans, by Islamofacists, to justify skepticism of their denials of complicity by the so-called moderate Muslims?
This time the American people rose up, in righteous anger, and demanded that this deal be stopped. The voice of the people was heard and for the first time, in a long while, our elected representatives heard us and acted as they are expected to do.
Ok, so it was not a wise thing to do, so far as business is concerned. Not a wise thing to do, so far as world politics is concerned. Not a wise thing to do, so far as diplomacy was concerned. None of that matters. Not at all. What the world has seen as a result of this unwise deal is American anger. Not American diplomacy, or American politics. They saw American anger. Justifiable anger. Deep abiding anger. And they saw what the American citizens can do to force their government, even the most powerful man in the world, to listen to their voices and respond as directed by the citizens of the United States of America.
If some don’t like it…tough!

Mr. Limbaugh is not going to like this!
ReplyDeleteEven though I have great respect for Mr. Limbaugh, I reserve the right to disagree with anyone,Mr. Limbaugh included. I respect his position on this matter, and his premise may very well be correct. But I do not believe it matters at this point in our history.
ReplyDeleteThe American people made a decision about this without the assistance of the media, or their government, and by sheer force of will moved their representatives, in the government, to block the deal.
Every once in a while we get our hackles up and things get done. This was one of those times.
So Limbaugh was finally wrong on something....I'm going to overlook it every three years or so, just so he can keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the President, whom I voted for, was all for the deal. I am so glad that the other representatives listened to the people. So what if we seem biased, we have a few good reasons to be. We earned that right. I will, for the rest of my life, look upon Muslims in a not-so-bright light. They chose to harm a proud country, and its time we show that we bow to no one. Money made in a deal is not worth the next incident that kills innocent Americans. I was totally dumbfounded when I heard that our Commander in Chief was for the Dubai deal, truly disheartening that the U.S. is always up for sale.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, and I feel exactly the same, this *deal* may have been a financial gain, it may have been a sound business deal but in my heart, it felt WRONG and I don't give a damn if Bush supported it or not, he's not infallabe..
ReplyDeleteEven if you want to compare the British company to the UAE company, the British company was PRIVATELY owned by stockholders looking to make a profit, with a board of trustees and everything, meanwhile, the UAE company was not really a company, but a GOVERNMENT owned entity. Certainly, never should any entity owned by a foreign government have any imput or power over our shipping ports or airports.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been here before but I'm impressed with your blog! I'm glad to find yet another conservative blogger that I admire. Great rant! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also a member of the Texas Connection which is how I found your blog. Keep up the good work.
Once the stink blows over Bush will bring it back up and it will quietly go through and you morons will be none the wiser. Limbaugh should be taken off the air, he pollutes alot of minds with facist dribble. I think the FCC should pull his liscence!

Frank, I said that back on February 27th. Only... not as colorfully as you. See below:

Ok, lets see if I can make this as clear as possible.
The Ports Management deal will eventually be allowed to proceed and the UAE company will get the contract and will manage the ports.
I have come to believe that is the way this debacle will shake out in the end.
The Congress may, or may not, have hearings. The Congress may, or may not, pass legislation to delay the contract until they can "investigate" more. (A "delay" has already been instituted by the UAE company.) If the Congress finds they absolutely must pass some sort of legislation to delay the sale, the President will veto the bill. In that event, the Congress will "over ride" the President’s veto and there will be a few “show” hearings and, in a few weeks, the deal will be allowed to slip quietly to fruition. This is politics, folks.
You see, I look at Congress and I just cannot believe those people I see ranting and raving, on both sides of the aisle, about what a danger to our security this deal is, are serious! I just don’t believe it. I think they see this whole thing in the light of politics… period!
The Democrats have the labor unions to answer to if they don’t raise Cain. The Republicans have us conservatives to answer to if they don’t. But when all the smoke clears away, I see nothing but a bunch of self-serving politicians performing a kabuki dance, posturing for the cameras and the microphones.
That is a sad commentary on our political system… for both Political Parties.
I happen to think there is potential for a serious security breech at our ports. It makes complete sense, to me, to do everything in our power to make it as nearly impossible for such a breech to occur as it is within our power to make it. That includes... not taking chances we do not absolutely have to take. The Ports Management deal falls into the latter category… anyway you look at it.
Maybe it’s because I’m sitting down here, in one of the Mid-Atlantic states, just a few short miles from one of our state's major ports, or… maybe it’s because I don’t have to cover my behind with labor unions, or various wings of the other political party, that I am not encumbered with the confusing haze of all the bloviating from the right wing, or the left wing, that I can see this proposed disaster as the average American sees it… a possible disaster in the making, an unnecessary gamble we needn’t take.
But, then, I’m just a little ole country boy, down here in the swamps of the South who doesn’t know the first thing about economics, or national and international politics! You think? You might be surprised.
This is one of those times when I wish, and hope, I am wrong. But, my true feeling is that after a few weeks of strutting before the cameras, the Ports Management Deal will be allowed to go through.
It sorta makes you aware of just how “at the mercy” of our politicians we truly are, doesn’t it.
I’m not going to forget this by November. Oh, no. And you shouldn’t either. That’s what that little booth is all about. I WILL register a protest there on that Tuesday morning. They can count on it!

And by the way, Mr. Limbaugh does not have, nor does he need, a license from the FCC. His is a syndicated radio show sold to the various stations around the country.
Secondly, it is against the law for the FCC to involve itself in the programming of a station... that is the programs a station decides to air. They cannot do it.
There is this little problem with the First Amendment.
Yeah like bush appointing the head of PBS to sensor them into showing a more republican friendly agenda instead of the truth! Like Fox and all the mainstream media in this coutry airing republican soundbites and misinformation as news. And Limbaugh could be silenced and so could the MSM because it is illegal to air propaganda in side the U.S. That's why you'll never hear the radio station "Voice of America" within the U.S. borders because it is all American Propaganda.
ReplyDeleteFrank:
ReplyDeletePropaganda is perfectly legal in the United States. How else do you explain perfectly legal propaganda published by Ann Coulter, Michael Moore, and Al Franken? What the hell do you think 99% of campaign adds are? Propaganda. Whether ethically wrong or right, it's perfectly legal and protected by the First Amendment. It's funny who liberals and their "great" ACLU love to spout "First Amendment" for everything from lies about a president to supporting NAMBLA's right to exist, yet, if the propaganda or speech is something they don't like, it should be illegal.
